NOTE FROM THE ED. I am leading sessions focusing on cross-cultural destination storytelling and experiential travel in a specialized course on Social Media Marketing for the Tourism Industry (EQF level 5) at ITS Tecnico in Santa Margherita Ligure, organized by Fondazione ITS Turismo Liguria. Liguria serves as the case study for tailored in-class activities for my Generation Z classroom. This post is the last in a series of four, showcasing the collaborative work of my students.

I am happy to share the results of their hard work.

Hi guys and gals! Here are 12 things to do in Liguria, on the north-western side of Italy. If you miss these, your experience won't be complete, from wandering amidst the historical centre of Genoa to exploring the two sides of the Riviera. Welcome to the Italian Riviera!

1. Immerse yourself in the green scenery of the parks in Arenzano, a coastal town near Genoa. Take a stroll in the company of a wide range of animals (such as peacocks, turtles and ducks).

2. Experience the two souls of Genoa, by day and night, in Boccadasse and Corso Italia.

A must-see in Genoa, a promenade filled with bars and beaches. By night you can dance in one of the many discos.

3. Lose yourself in the maze of Genoa's historical centre.

Discover the city's nightlife and explore one of the best places in town: the carruggi and their typical bars.

4. Dive deep into sea life in the Aquarium of Genoa, one of the best in Europe. There’s no way you visit Genoa without seeing it.

5. Taste the typical Ligurian flavours with an aperitivo at Capocotta and Bistro in Sestri Levante.

Try the pansoti with walnut sauce with a glass of wine.

6. Cycle your way through the beauty of the 5 Terre.

Enjoy the spectacular view while staying in shape.

7. Enjoy an aperitivo at Punta Pedale Beach in Santa Margherita Ligure. Enjoy fried shrimp with chips and Portofino Gin.

8. Savour a glass of Mandarinata, the typical soft drink from Niasca, as you sunbathe on the beach.

9. Conquer Portofino from the sea.

Sail the Tigullio Riviera from the ferry of Rapallo.

10. Spend a relaxing day in Camogli and get a taste of real Italian gelato.

11. Get stunned by an explosion of flavours with Focaccia col Formaggio di Recco IGP. Quoting the words from Fred Plotkin: “the most addictive food on the planet”. Just go and taste it!

12. Party hard at the Orizzonte disco club in Varazze, and wow at the incredible view of the sea from the disco pool!
